I’ve never been a locum tenens provider. How does it work?
Delta Locum Tenens connects healthcare facilities nationwide with qualified physicians and advanced practitioners for both short- and long-term placements on a 1099 independent contractor basis. While you would not be an employee of Delta Locum Tenens or the client facility, we partner with you to coordinate and manage the logistics of your assignment. This structure offers the freedom and flexibility of independent contracting, backed by the support of an experienced and dedicated team. Payments are issued weekly upon submission of your timesheet through our streamlined online system. And if a particular placement isn’t the right fit, we’ll work with you to find an opportunity that better aligns with your goals and lifestyle.
-
How do you assist with credentialing and licensing?
At Delta Locum Tenens, we make the onboarding process smooth and stress-free. Our experienced credentialing team works collaboratively with you and the facility’s medical staff to ensure all required documentation is completed quickly and accurately, including helping you update your address with the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) if needed. Throughout the process, our dedicated support teams are available to help answer any questions you may have.
-
What type of malpractice coverage is offered?
Providers working with Delta Locum Tenens receive professional liability coverage of $1 million per claim and $3 million in aggregate, on a portable, claims-made basis. “Portable” means the coverage can transfer between insurance carriers as long as the provider continues working. This protection applies to each shift worked while the provider is booked through and actively on assignment with Delta Locum Tenens.
-
I have my own malpractice insurance. Can I use that instead?
Unfortunately, no. All physicians working with Delta Locum Tenens are required to meet the strict standards set by our A++ rated malpractice insurance carrier. To ensure maximum protection for both you and our clients, we provide top-tier malpractice coverage as part of your assignment.
-
Can I work for a facility on a permanent basis?
While most of our providers value the flexibility of the locum tenens lifestyle, permanent placements can occasionally arise. If both you and the facility decide to transition the assignment into a permanent role, you’re free to do so. In such cases, the facility will assume responsibility for your scheduling, compensation, and contract moving forward. As our clients agree to a placement fee upfront, this process allows for a smooth transition without restrictions.
-
Is there a minimum length for assignments?
No, there is no minimum requirement. While many locum tenens physicians prefer assignments lasting five days or more, we regularly fill shorter engagements, including one (1)-day and weekend assignments.
-
How do I get reimbursed for locum tenens coverage?
